Rebuilding an automaticTransmission can be relatively inexpensive if malfunctions are repaired promptly to avoid damage to the gear-train. Automatic Transmission Rebuilding Process:

  • Transmission technical service bulletins are reviewed
  • All components are checked for damage or distortion
  • Pumps valve bodies and mating surfaces are flat sanded to ensure proper fit
  • Pump gear clearances are checked
  • Planetary gear pinion wear and end play clearances are checked
  • Planetary assemblies are soaked in ATF prior to assembly
  • Clutch and friction material are replaced and soaked in ATF prior to assembly
  • Steel clutch plates are replaced if burned or worn
  • Band contact areas are checked for wear and flatness

  • Clutch packs & bands are replaced & clearances are set to factory specifications
  • Unit end play clearance set to factory specifications
  • Pump and valve body components torque set to factory specifications
